“For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?”
– Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen

“If the mattress stains were anything to go by, a previous user had not so much suffered from incontinence as rejoiced in it. He had evidently included the pillow in his celebrations.”
– A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson
(first time i read this this i couldn’t stop laughing, still cracks me up. sicko.)

“People sometimes assume that Everest is littered with bodies, as in a war zone, but it’s not true. Perhaps half the climbers simply disapear, falling off one face or another or getting covered with snow. The few bodies that remain in sight are not particularly conspicuous.”
– No Shortcuts to the Top. Climbing the World’s 14 Highest Peaks, Ed Viesters

Sarah – That quote from A Walk in the Woods cracked me up as well.
And of course I enjoyed the Pride and Prejudice quote too. I’ve been on a huge Jane Austen kick this year and have read Emma and Sense and Sensibility.
